Global Missions:
Alaska
Step 1 of 3

Thank you for expressing interest in a short-term mission trip with Cross Assembly.
Please consider the following information.
If you are then interested in joining the team, select “Continue“ to start the three-step process.

Prayerfully consider joining team leaders Sean and Cathy Mellor as they spend a week serving Native American children in Alaska at Camp Agaiutim Nune (Camp AN).  They will serve alongside NC US Missionary Philip Boswell.  This team will be the fourth team that Cross Assembly has sent to Camp AN. The team will travel by commercial air, bush flight, four wheeler and boat in order to access the off-the-grid campsite.  The children who come to camp are ages eight to 12 and are from remote villages near the Yukon River.  Many are coming from very difficult and spiritually challenging homes.  Each day is full of worship services, games, and Bible study.  In preparation for the trip, team members will be required to attend several training meetings in order to prepare spiritually and culturally.

Alaska - FAQ

What are the dates of the trip?
The Kids Camp team will serve June 13-24, 2025.

What is the cost of the trip, and what is included?
The trip costs $3000-3,200.  This includes airfare, ground transportation, accommodations, emergency/medical insurance and food at camp (final cost will be determined once airfare is secured).

The cost does NOT include immunization costs, food at the airport on travel days, required evacuation insurance ($49) and personal purchases for or on the trip.  Please note several “camping” items will be needed for the trip and will be an additional cost if they are items you do not already have.

A $200, nonrefundable trip deposit is due by the first team meeting.  Additional payment deadlines will be communicated to team members by the team leader.

Are payments and contributions tax deductible?
Yes, an end-of-year contribution receipt will be provided from Cross Assembly.

Are contributions refundable?
If you are unable to travel after monies have been paid, please consult the team leader and missions director.  Many expenses are pre-paid and nonrecoverable by Cross Assembly and will not be refunded or credited back to you.

How can contributions be made?
If writing a check, checks should be made payable to Cross Assembly.  Per IRS regulations, team member names should NOT be written on the memo line.  If at all possible, please include a payment coupon (given to team members at the first team meeting) with all check payments.  Checks and cash may also be placed in a Cross Assembly giving envelope with the team member’s name and trip indicated.

Online contributions can be made through a team-specific giving link.  The link will be given to team members for their use and for them to distribute to their donors.

Will I need a passport?
No, a passport is not required for this trip.

Are extra immunizations needed for the trip?
Overall, please consult the CDC website and your physician and make a vaccination decision with which you are comfortable.

For more lesser-known vaccinations, you have options such as Passport Health, Rx Urgent Care, and Wake County Human Services.  A quick Google search may also give other options.  Please note that many vaccinations are not covered by standard health insurance coverage, so please research your insurance coverage, cost, and various providers so you’re not caught off-guard.

What if I’m not a member of Cross Assembly?
If you are over the age of 18 and not a member, please contact the Global Missions department at [email protected] for special consideration.

Can a minor join this team?
Due to the nature of the trip, minors will not be considered at this time.

What are the physical demands of this trip?
This trip is physically demanding.  Emmonak, Alaska is a very remote area.  Team members will serve 24 hours a day, working with the kids and sleeping in tents. While at camp the team will follow the camp schedule, including multiple chapel services a day, game time, activity time and free time supervision for the children.  Prior to camp beginning, the staff will also assign specific jobs to coaches (kitchen help, supervision duties, lifeguard duty, snack shack duty, etc.).

Is there additional training required for this trip?
Yes.  Team members will attend monthly meetings to be better equipped to minister to the children at the camp and understand cultural differences.  In addition, team members will need to have recent experience working with children in a direct role.  Those who do not have recent experience may be asked to serve at Cross Assembly Kidz Ministry once a month to meet this requirement.

Is a background check required?
Yes, Cross Assembly and Assemblies of God US Missions require a criminal background check for team members.  If you do not have a current background check on file with Cross Assembly, you will receive an email with instructions when you submit your application.

How do I apply to join the team?
